Jan. 2024 Central Taiwan EMI Teacher Training Event: Enrollment till Dec. 28

Dear teachers,

In the winter vacation of 2024, the Southern Regional Resource Center for Bilingual Education, National Sun Yat-sen University (hereinafter referred to as the Center) will collaborate with Feng Chia University and Hungkuang University to organize two EMI teacher training programs. We cordially invite you to enroll.

The Center's EMI teacher training program is divided into three levels: Entry, Junior, and Senior. The training contents include workshops, teacher communities, teaching demonstrations, and classroom observations. Please see below for explanation (please refer to the attached image):

  1. Workshops: Each session is about 2-3 hours long, focusing on teaching theory and practice.
  2. Teacher Community: Each session is 1.5 hours long, where teachers share and exchange practical teaching experiences, with an emphasis on encouraging English interaction among teachers to boost speaking confidence.
  3. Micro-Teaching: Teachers provide a 15-minute teaching plan in advance for expert reference. On the demonstration day, they simulate teaching in English. Experts provide oral feedback and written feedback afterward.
  4. Class Observations: Teachers provide a lesson plan in advance for expert reference. Experts observe the teacher's English teaching in class for one period, and provide written feedback afterward.

There will be two training events in Taichung as follows:

Entry-Level (Enrollment Link)

Date: January 15, 2024 (Mon) 09:00 to January 16, 2024 (Tue) 17:00

Agenda: Consists of three workshops (8 hrs), two teacher communities (3 hrs), and Micro-Teaching (15 mins)

Junior-Level (Enrollment Link)

Venue: Hungkuang University (No. 1018, Section 6, Taiwan Boulevard, Shalu District, Taichung City)

Agenda: Three workshops (8 hrs), two teacher communities (3 hrs), and Micro-Teaching (15 mins)

There are no prerequisites for each activity. Teachers can choose based on their availability and preferences. However, for those planning to receive a complete-level certificate, we recommend participating in the entire two-day course. The explanation are as follows:

  1. For the Entry-Level certificate, you need to attend 8 hours of Workshops, 3 Teacher Community sessions, and execute 1 Micro-Teaching. With this two-day course, you can fulfill the requirements for workshops and Micro-Teaching session. You can then attend one more Teacher Community event hosted by the Center; or, apply to organize an inter-collegiate Teacher Community (scheduled to open for applications in February 2024). Either of these two, plus participating in the entire two-day course, will allow you to obtain the Entry-Level training certificate.
  2. For the Junior-Level certificate, you need to attend 8 hours of workshops, 3 Teacher Community sessions, and execute 1 Class Observation (which lasts for 1 period). With this two-day course, you can fulfill the requirements for workshops. You can then:
  1. Attend one more EMI teacher community event hosted by the Center; or, apply to organize an inter-collegiate Teacher Community (scheduled to open for applications in February 2024).
  2. Apply for Class Observation service from the Center during the Spring semester of 2023/2024 academic year.

By fulfilling (1) and (2), plus participating in the entire two-day course, will allow you to obtain the Junior-Level training certificate.
